Board.jpg
Yamaha LLE72 viewsOne of the reasons I chose this electro-acoustic over others it that it has an outboard pre-amp. The theory is that an onboard pre-amp (one that is built into the guitar) will affect the sound when played purely acoustically, whereas an outboard pre-amp does not require any modifications to the structure of the guitar and does not, therefore, affect its acoustic tone.

Shown above is the pre-amp (Yamaha's Guitar Acousty) moounted on a board with a dedicated tuner and a switch mode power supply.

Yamaha_SB0002.jpg
Yamaha SB5546 viewsMade in 1972, I bought this in 1993 for my son on his 18th birthday. The choice had boiled down to this and a new Squier Precision and I chose this because it felt right. I didn't know at the time what a good buy this was because, although it is not valuable, it is a classic that is a joy to play and has a wonderful mellow sound. When I took it to Martyn Booth for a repair, he was so taken with it he arranged for it to feature in the August 1997 edition of Bassist magazine (now defunct).tone256
